Watching the weather

Well, it looks like our weather window on the 22nd is vanishing, it was supposed to be light winds and moderate seas for two days but it's shrunk to 12 hours. So we'll continue to monitor but might have to wait for another weather window. Currently the forecast for the next week is winds 15 to 20 knots building to 25 to 30 knots along the Colombian coast, seas 7-9 feet but twice that along the Colombian coast with increased squall activity. Not something we really want or need to sail in so if this weather window vanishes it looks like we'll have at least another week here in San Igancio de Tupile.

We had a great time last week at the E. Lemon Cayes. There's a Kuna man there starting a special order business from Panama City. While Cartagena is the most expensive place we've ever had to provision (Panama City is half the price of Cartagena) we did provision heavily before leaving last October. But after spending six months in the San Blas we were dangerously low on food. There are a lot of tiendas here that have basic supplies and lots of fresh bread, and a veggie boat with rum, beer, milk, eggs, chicken, wine and fresh produce comes by the boats once or twice a week but we still needed a lot of other stuff. We placed a large provisioning order with this Kuna man named Mr. G and he came through. We got $1000 worth of food from Panama City delivered right to the boat including gin for David's martinis, lots of cheddar, swiss and monteray jack cheese, marinated portobello mushrooms, cat food for Ashley, variety of canned goods and a bunch of other things. So we'll be eating good while we wait for the weather. Fresh seafood is abundant here too. If I don't go fishing myself we can always buy it from the Kunas, the Kunas are always selling fresh fish for a dollar or two, a bit more in some of the more popular places. We've been buying crab and lobster a lot too, in the Eastern San Blas lobster has been selling for about 50 cents each while in the Western San Blas is a bit more. But unfortunately crab and lobster are out of season from March 1 to May 31 so we'll just stick with fish for now. David has some great recipes. Not much else going on today, just kicking back and procrastinating on my boat projects (as usual).
