Having completed a handful of projects (maintenance stuff) and after picking up our laundry from Red Frog Marina this morning we raised anchor and leisurely motored five miles to Twin Creek. Where we were anchored off of Red Frog Marina we had Isla Bastiementos to the north of us and Cayo Nancy to the south of us. To get to Twin Creek we had to go around Cayo Nancy and anchor on it's south side. Twin Creek is really a small mangrove lined inlet and when we were here four years ago there was one small house there. Now there are a few houses there and like most places in the Bocas area now the gringos that moved in have abandoned the name used on nautical charts, guide books and even the names used by locals hundreds of years and have given it their own name. So Twin Creek is called by the new gringos as Discovery Bay. We'll continue to call it Twin Creek as that is what all the charts and guide books refer it as. My thought is that if there were ever an emergency and we needed to contact authorities what name are they going to use to find us, the name used on charts or the nickname used by gringos?
Anyway, we didn't go all the way into Twin Creek. Its a narrow inlet and word has it that it is quite buggy with the biting noseeums. So we anchored a little off of the island on a beautiful shoal of only seven feet. Its a small sand bar about 100 feet by 100 feet and surrounded by 50' of water. We also have a very good breeze here to keep us comfortable.
Twin creek is a new place for us and we'll hang out for a day before going to the anchorage near Bocas town. I'm going to fly to Panama City on Sunday for a few days to take care of some business and David will stay on the boat to keep an eye on it and Ashley. After I get back, who knows.
